Institution Notes:
This state-owned Academy was founded in 1964 as an affiliate of the Bulgarian State Conservatory in Sofia and is regarded as equivalent in status to a university. It gained its current name and status in 1995. There are Faculties of Musical Pedagogy, Musical Folklore and Choreography, Fine Arts, and a department of Language and Specialized Education. Facilities include a well-equipped library and music technology suites. Language of instruction is Bulgarian. The Academy holds an annual summer Bulgarian Folk Music & Dance Seminar. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
