Institution Notes:

A private historically black university, founded in 1866 and affiliated with the United Church of Christ. The courses in music business are offered through the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business of Belmont University. The library holds the Thomas A Dorsey collection of sheet music, audio tapes and other ephemera of gospel music, the George Gershwin collection of sheet music, recordings, photographs and memorabilia, and the Scott Joplin collection of rag-time music. The chapel houses a fine 1966 Holtkamp organ. The Fisk Jubilee Singers (dating from 1871) were awarded the National Medal of Arts for artistic achievement in 2008. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
