Institution Notes:

A state-assisted institution. It was founded in 1886 as a teachers’ college for women, became co-educational in 1972, and gained university status in 1992. The College of Visual and Performing Arts comprises departments of art, interior design, music, theatre and dance. The music department is housed in the Conservatory of Music building and has access to some fine performing spaces. The department of music organises an Academy of Music that provides music tuition to children and young people of the local community. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
