Institution Notes:

Carnegie Mellon University is a private institution that can trace its history back to 1900 and gained its current name and status in 1967. The university’s College of Fine Arts consists of schools of architecture, art, design, drama and music. The music department is a conservatory in a university setting and is an All-Steinway School. It offers a full opera program and a program of Alexander Technique. All music students are required to take Dalcroze eurhythmics for two years. A One-Plus Four Program is designed to meet the needs of exceptionally talented young international musicians whose command of English is not yet sufficient to be able to cope with the demands of the academic program. Students are expected to arrange and participate in community outreach programs in such places as school, hospitals, nursing homes and the like. A six-week Pre-College program enables aspiring secondary school students to work with faculty members at the School of Music. The Carnegie Mellon Preparatory School offers music tuition to young people from age 4 to age 18. A regular summer program offers studies in performance, composition, jazz studies and music technology. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
