An independent academy, founded in 1933, specialising in the training of talented singers. Its mission is to train singers for a professional career rather than to earn a degree or a teaching qualification. The Academy enrols women aged 18 - 28 and men aged 20 – 30 and no more than 30 students are enrolled at any one time. Tuition is free, all students being awarded scholarships; a number of valuable merit-based fellowships are also available to assist with cost of living while attending the Academy. An Opera Outreach Program gives middle and high school students the opportunity to learn about all aspects of opera through comprehensive study guides, followed by live performances of the opera they studied.
