Institution Notes:

The Institute, the principal music research institute in Argentina, was founded in 2006 and operates under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires. It is not a teaching institution. It carries out research into all aspects of ethnomusicology, with particular reference to the socio-cultural context of Latin America and the Caribbean. Research publications (books, CDs and the journal 'Música e Investigación') are issued on topics in ethnomusicology, folklore and historical musicology as well as in popular Argentinian music and tango. The library holds the books, manuscripts and other materials of Dr Isabel Aretz. The Institute organises concerts and annual conferences of musicologists from Latin-American countries. It holds the Archivo Nacional de Música - an extensive collection of archival resource material (tape, video, film, manuscript) on Argentinian composers, indigenous Argentinian aboriginal music and Indian music from several other South American countries.
