A state-supported university founded in 1876. The School of Music sees its particular strengths as in composition, performance, jazz studies and music education. Facilities include state-of-the-art music technololgy labs. There is a collection of orchestral and band instruments, early keyboard instruments, three pipe organs, and Balinese and Javanese gamelans. An Intermedia Music Technology Center is dedicated to the exploration of sound and its creation, including the innovative use of computers and other recent technologies to create expressive music and new media compositions. Its Oregon Electronic Device Ensemble employs all types of recent technology to provide unique performance experiences. Music students have internship opportunities with the Eugene Symphony Orchestra and the Eugene Opera.
