Institution Notes:

A state-assisted university founded in 1964, but can trace its history back to the 1880s. Staff of the music department include members of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. The Cleveland Contemporary Players are in residence at the Department. The music department has access to several fine performance spaces, and houses a state-of-the-art recording studio, digital composition studios and a composition resource centre. There is an active opera program. The library houses an archive of contemporary Polish music. The music department organises a Summer Arts Institute which includes workshops for music educators on the approaches of Orff and Kodály. A community music program offers individual and group lessons in performance to interested members of the community. The music department is a member of the Cleveland Arts Education Consortium, with representatives from all the arts organisations in the city, aiming to share ideas about fund raising, audience building and the like. There is also a Cleveland Music Therapy Consortium allowing for co-operative courses for music therapy students. It comprises Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music, Cleveland State University and the College of Wooster. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
