Institution Notes:

A private university founded in 1826. It gained its current name and status in 1967. A Joint Music Program is organised with the Cleveland Institute of Music, thus increasing the range of courses available to students at both institutions. The Cleveland Institute offers the programs in performance, composition, eurhythmics, theory, audio recording, piano accompanying and Suzuki pedagogy, while Case Western Reserve University offers the courses in music history, music education and the liberal arts. Ensembles include two orchestras, choral groups, jazz and new music ensembles, percussion ensemble and a baroque orchestra, an early music vocal ensemble and a Collegium Musicum for performance of early music. The music department owns the Kulas Collection of Historical Instruments. There is a collaboration with the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum which holds a significant archive of papers, notated scores and manuscripts, song lyrics, a collection of recorded music as well as some guitars and other wind instruments associated with the rock movement.
