Institution Notes:

A private university of Methodist heritage that can trace its history back to 1831. The College of Visual and Performing Arts was founded in 1873, being the first degree-granting college of fine arts in the USA. The music school's official name is the Rose, Jules R, and Stanford S Setnor School of Music. There is a thriving opera program. Most of the facilities of the music school are housed in Crouse College, and include a state-of-the-art electronic and recording laboratory and some fine performing spaces. The Belfer Audio Laboratory and Archive contains more than 340,000 items, including a collection of 22,000 cylinder records. A Community Music Division offers music tuition and performance opportunities to young people and interested members of the local community. Syracuse University also has a campus in Utica.
