Institution Notes:

Founded in 1828, this institution joined the State University of New York system in 1948. The music department has access to several fine performing spaces. There is a well-equipped electronic music laboratory. An early instrument collection comprises recorders, crumhorns, shawms, renaissance and baroque flutes, lutes, an archlute, cittern, rebec, sackbut, cornetto, diatonic harps, a bowed psaltery, a set of viols, a hurdy-gurdy and a harpsichord. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The State University of New York (SUNY) was founded in 1948 with the amalgamation of a number of universities and colleges throughout the State of New York, some of which can trace their history back to 1816.
