Institution Notes:

This institution was founded in 1846 as a private medical college, and merged with the State University of New York system in 1962. It is the flagship campus of the State University of New York system and is not to be confused with Buffalo University College which is also part of SUNY. The music department houses the Hiller Computer Music Studios with state-of-the-art facilities as well as the Center for 21st Century Music, dedicated to the creation and production of new work in music. The Slee Institute of Tonal Harmony is a research institution devoted to research into methods of teaching music theory. There is a thriving opera program. Library holdings include strong collections in the area of jazz and contemporary music, 18th and 19th century British vocal music, French vocal music 1780 – 1862, the Mark Chowaniec World Music Collection, with hundreds of cassettes of Asian music, Grétry opera scores, Morton Feldman papers. The summer program 'June in Buffalo' is a new music festival open to all composers. The State University of New York (SUNY) was founded in 1948 with the amalgamation of a number of universities and colleges throughout the State of New York, some of which can trace their history back to 1816. Music programs at the State University of New York (SUNY) are offered at the campuses at Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, Buffalo State, Cortland, Fredonia, Geneseo, New Paltz, Oneonta, Oswego, Plattsburgh, Potsdam (the Crane School of Music), Purchase and Stony Brook.
