A College of the City University of New York, founded in 1930. There is an annual calendar of over 100 public concerts and recitals of repertory from early music to contemporary, presented in the College’s Center for the Performing Arts and other fine performing spaces. The new Leonard & Claire Tow Center for the Performing Arts on campus is a state-of-the-art facility as well as a premiere performance venue. The Conservatory houses a Center for Computer Music and the H Wiley Hitchcock Institute for Studies in American Music. There is an opera theater program and a recording and technology program. The Walter W Gerboth Music Library houses a strong collection of American music and performance scores. There is affiliation with the doctoral programs in music of the City University’s Graduate School and University Center. The College organises a Preparatory Center for the Performing Arts, offering music programs to young people. The City University of New York (CUNY) was founded in 1961.
