Institution Notes:
A private university founded in 1853. The music department, established in 1946, sees particular strengths in graduate study, especially in theory, musicology, voice and piano. The department has access to several fine performing spaces. The Gaylord Music Library has an extensive collection of scores, books, periodicals and recordings. Special collections include early editions of Mozart and Beethoven, American sheet music of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (including over 5,000 works published between 1820 and 1870 many describing significant historical events), and music of the Czech lands.
