Institution Notes:

A state-supported university founded in 1910 as a teacher training college. It gained its current name and status in 1962. The School of Music comprises departments of theatre and dance, visual arts, and music. The University has the reputation of being one that has awarded doctoral degrees to well above the annual national average of black musicians in every year since 1989. It is the repository for all music, recordings and kinescopes of Tennessee Ernie Ford, country-Western singer. There is an active opera program. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
