Details:
Bachelor of Arts in Music. Four years. Studies include performance (classical, jazz, traditional instruments), composition, theory, music history and literature, world music, electronic music, music education (with choral and instrumental conducting). Performance training is available on African drums, African flute, African voice, sitar, bagpipes, gamba, recorder, black American music.
Institution Notes:
A private liberal arts college founded in 1874 of Presbyterian heritage. The music department owns a set of African drums, African flutes, a sitar and a number of medieval and baroque instruments. Ensembles include a highland pipe band and an early music ensemble. Macalester College is a member of the Associated Colleges of the Twin Cities, allowing cross-registration with Augsburg College, Hamline University, the College of St Catherine and the University of St Thomas.
