The Institute was founded in 1970 and occupies the buildings of the old Franciscan convent in Namur. There are links with the musicology department at l’Université Catholique de Louvain, the Lemmensinstitute and the Royal Conservatories in Belgium. Language of instruction is French. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
