Institution Notes:

Emerson College, a private co-educational university, was founded in 1880. Its Department of Performing Arts runs a full program in musical theatre. The College owns the Cutler Majestic Theatre originally built in 1903 as an opera house, which is used for its productions. In 2003 it opened the 11-story Tufte Performance Production Centre with fine performing venues and facilities. There are branches in Los Angeles and in Well, Netherlands. Seven institutions in the Boston area have formed a Pro-Arts Consortium, allowing for some cross-registration and sharing of facilities with both students and faculty members: Berklee College of Music, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Boston Architectural College, Emerson College, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, New England Conservatory School, Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University.
