Post-graduate Performance Diploma. Opera Institute Certificate. Twelve students are admitted each year, each receiving full tuition and a stipend.


Institution Notes:

A private non-sectarian university. The School of Music was founded in 1872, and is the oldest degree-granting music program in USA. The College of Fine Arts comprises three main divisions: music, theatre and visual arts. There is a full opera program offered through the Opera Institute. The Music Division sponsors the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras. The Boston University Tanglewood Institute's instructional programs are organised in collaboration with the Boston University School for the Arts, accepting students from age 15, by audition (see separate entry). The Robert Shaw Choral Institute offers summer choral programs in France as well as on campus to students of the Music Divisions of Boston University, Ohio State University at Columbus and the University of California, Los Angeles. The University’s School of Theology houses the headquarters of The Hymn Society in the USA and Canada as well as the American Guild of Organists’ organ library and one of the finest hymnological collections in North America. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music. Boston University is part of a consortium with Brandeis University, Boston College and Tufts University. Graduate students may enrol in graduate courses at any of these other schools.
