Institution Notes:

A state university founded in 1863 and gained its current name and status in 1947. It is the flagship institution of the University of Massachusetts system. The University is one of a five-college consortium which shares programs for the purpose of extending and enriching their collective educational resources. The other neighbouring colleges forming this five-college consortium are: • Amherst College, Amherst. • Hampshire College, Amherst. • Smith College, Northampton. • Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley. The five colleges share programs in ethnomusicology/world music, theory, music history topics and early music performance. There is a Five College PhD program, awarded by the University of Massachusetts. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
