This institution can trace its history back to 1741. Commonly known as 'Hogent', it gained its current name and status in 2001 and operates over several campuses in and around Ghent. There are departments of instrumental/vocal performance, composition, jazz, dramatic arts, pedagogy and pop music producer as well as an opera studio in collaboration with Opera Gent. Facilities include very fine performance spaces, a well-equipped recording studio and a collection of early instruments. Language of instruction is Dutch. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
