Institution Notes:

The Conservatoire was founded in 1832. At this address are two distinct institutions: • the Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Bruxelles (French-speaking, outlined above), and • the Koninklijk Muziekconservatorium van Brussel (Flemish-speaking - see separate entry). Entry to all courses is by audition. There are departments of classical and contemporary music, early music, jazz, eurhythmics, pedagogy and theatre. Music studies are offered to upper-level secondary school students who may gain an Associate diploma. The library holds manuscripts of C P E Bach, Georg Philipp Telemann and Gossec, an extensive collection of 17th, 18th and 19th century German music and 16th century organ tablatures. There is a collection of over 6,000 early and ethnic instruments. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
