Institution Notes:
A state-supported university founded in 1866. The music department sees one particular strength as in organ playing and church music. The Department of Music is housed in Murphy Hall, with a number of fine performing spaces. There is an opera program, an annual jazz festival and a Symposium of Contemporary Music.
