Institution Notes:

The University of Iowa was founded in 1847, being the State’s first public institution of higher learning. The School of Music was established in 1906 and occupies the Voxman Music Building with a number of fine performing spaces. The Division of Performing Arts comprises departments of dance, music, theatre arts and performing arts entrepreneurship. There are well-equipped recording studios and an instructional technology centre as well as a Center for New Music concentrating on music of the late 20th and early 21st century. Facilities include eight practice and recital organs. The Rita Benton Music Library holds a collection of eighteenth and nineteenth century music theory treatises and instrument method books, and a large collection of keyboard and chamber music by Ignaz Pleyel as well as manuscripts of Phillip Greeley Clapp (a former director of the School) and the Goldman Band Collection. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
