Institution Notes:
Roosevelt University was founded in 1945 as an independent, non-sectarian institution. An earlier institution, the Chicago Musical College had been founded in 1867 and in 1954 it merged with Roosevelt University’s School of Music (itself founded in 1945) and since 2000 has been known as the Chicago College of Performing Arts. It comprises a Music Conservatory and a Theatre Conservatory. The professional training program in Orchestral Studies features many of the principals of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the voice faculty includes a number of former professionals from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Facilities include a number of fine performing spaces, well-equipped technology laboratories and electro-acoustic music facilities. The library has an extensive music archive of documents, publications, student theses and recordings of the Music Conservatory, some dating from the nineteenth century. Operas are produced each year. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
