Institution Notes:

A private liberal arts and media college founded in 1890 as the Columbia School of Oratory. It gained its current name and status in 1944 and is said to be one of the largest private arts and media colleges in the world. The Music Center houses the music programs of the college. There is a Center for Black Music Research, one of only two in the United States. The College runs a contemporary American music program. Facilities include some fine performing spaces and state-of-the-art digital sound recording and production laboratories. The Chicago Jazz Ensemble is in residence. The Music Center organises the Sherwood Community Music School that provides music programs for children and interested members of the local community, including a Suzuki Summer String Camp. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
