This private institution, formerly known as the 'Vienna Conservatory' gained its current name and status in 2005. The University has 17 affiliated music schools and operates a ‘Kindersingschule’. There are two Faculties: • Faculty of Music, comprising departments of instrumental performance, composition, choral and orchestral conducting, jazz and early music, and • Faculty of Performing Arts, with studies in voice, opera, musical theatre, drama and dance. An Institute for Science and Research (IMF) explores aspects of artistic practices and the application of scientific approaches to art productions. The journal ‘Fidelio’ is published five times per year. An active member of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen.
