Institution Notes:

A private university founded in 1833 and formerly related to the Georgia Baptist Convention. The Townsend School of Music was established in 2006 and the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings is a special institute within that school. It accepts up to 12 highly talented string students for advanced tuition. In a collaboration between the Townsend School of Music in Macon and the McAfee School of Theology in Atlanta, the Townsend-McAffe Institute was created in 2005 to prepare music artists for ministry in the church. There is an active opera program. The music school organises the Choral Society of Middle Georgia, the Mercer University Children’s Choir and an instrumental program of Mercer Music for Young People as part of its community outreach program. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
