Institution Notes:

An historically black college, its full name being Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. It was founded in 1887 and gained its current name and status in 1953. There is an Institute of Music Research and Music Industries Studies whose activities centre upon Black popular music of the Americas. Its focus is on popular music in its historical, cultural, and aesthetic domains and its linkages to other artistic forms of representation.
