Institution Notes:
An independent university founded in 1925. Current technological developments are used to enhance instructional and performing experiences in many programs, students having access to a number of specialist laboratories housed within the Advanced Technology Center. The Frost School of Music houses the Henry Mancini Institute which assembles high-performing international classical and jazz student orchestral musicians and offers training in a wide range of musical genres - traditional and contemporary classical styles as well as pop, jazz, rock, hip-hop, Afro-Cuban, Latin, Asian and other other world music. It offers full-paid graduate tuition plus a stipend to work as a teaching assistant and perform in the orchestra. The Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music Program is also located at the School. The library holds the Larry Taylor-Billy Matthews American Musical Theatre Collection. The School of Music presents the annual Festival Miami, an international music festival that runs from mid-September to mid-October, during which many concerts are presented. The School of Music has links with the Vienna Hochschule and a regular five-week summer program for singers and accompanists is held in Salzburg, Austria.
