The Academy was established in 1954. Parts of the Academy resemble a civilian university with training courses. The United States Air Force Academy Band holds regular auditions for positions in its bands and performing groups. There are also vacancies for audio engineers. A Young Artist Program allows students to perform with the Academy Band in some public concerts.
