Institution Notes:
This private institute was founded in 1961 by Walt and Roy Disney through the merger of two existing professional schools, the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music and the Chouinard Art Institute. There are schools of art, dance, film/video, music, theatre, and critical studies enabling students to combine various art forms in their studies. A number of flexible performing spaces are available, and there are studios for computer and experimental music. The School of Music houses a large collection of Western and early instruments, Indian instruments, and Balinese and Javanese gamelans. The library holds the complete published scores of John Cage. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
