Bachelor of Arts. Four years. Concentrations in music industry, music education, music therapy, general music studies. Bachelor of Music. Four years. Emphases in performance, jazz studies, composition, commercial and media writing, songwriting, music history, pedagogy.
Master of Arts. In music education, music industry administration, event management. Master of Music. In performance (classical, jazz, opera), composition, collaborative piano, choral and instrumental conducting.
Certificate in Music Therapy. A graduate program which includes a six-month clinical internship in an approved clinical setting, taken either concurrently with or following a BA in Music or a Bachelor of Music.
The University was founded in 1958 and gained its current name and status in 1972. The College of Arts, Media and Communication offers programs in art, cinema and television arts, communication studies, journalism, music and theatre. The Music Department is housed in Cypress Hall with several fine performance spaces. It runs a Community Music School offering music tuition to children and interested adults as well as a Music Therapy Wellness Clinic providing individual designated music activities for children and adults with disabilities and special challenges. Alexander Technique is available to students. Member of the California State University system. Member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
