The Fondazione Accademia Musical Chigiana (Chigiana Academy Music Foundation) is a private institution founded in 1932 with the aim of organising master classes for performers. It offers advanced programs in composition, courses in orchestral conducting, chamber music, music history and aesthetics, performance on early instruments, and contemporary music. Upper age limit for entry is 30 years, extended to 35 years for conductors and to 40 years for singers. There is a fine collection of 17th and 18th century instruments as well as more modern ones. The Foundation organises an International Summer Festival as well as an international Alfredo Casella orchestral composition competition every two years.
