While there are no music programs at the university, it does hold the LaTrobe University Library Medieval Music Database (http://www.lib.latrobe.edu.au/MMDB/) with a vast collection of scores, colour images, texts and bibliographic information of medieval music from the twelfth to the fifteenth centuries. The database was first mounted on the internet in 1994, expanded in 1996 and further expanded in 2008. It currently includes approximately 70,000 works. The collection can be searched by text, composer, genre, manuscript, liturgical feast or melody and which will return musical information in the form of a modern score, text data and, where available, a colour facsimile of an original manuscript. The collection contains liturgical chant as well as extensive secular works of important composers of the period. The music can be printed for performance in either the original notation or in modern transcription with the original notes presented immediately above the modern edition.
