Cantorial Program. A course of training for first year rabbinical and education students. There is also a course for training lay cantors. Studies include musicianship, guitar, piano, conducting, composition, and arranging as well as courses including Bible, midrash, philosophy, history, music technology, music education.
Founded in 1963, this is a branch of the Hebrew Union College in New York, USA. Other branches are in Cincinnati and Los Angeles. The first year of the New York program of the School of Sacred Music is taken at this institution, with later years taken at the New York campus. Rabbinical students are expected to have completed a Bachelor’s degree before commencement. There is a special course of cantorial training. The School organises the Hallel Community Choir and holds concerts for the Jerusalem community.
